The Mighty Bluebirds won their third consecutive tournament of the year by winning the Music City Invitational in their first trip to Nashville, TN. The Bluebirds experienced opponents from all over, weather from all over, and played on some very difficult fields. The Bluebirds won their first game 8-0 against Lady Extreme Dickson, TN, they won their second game 6-1 against TN United 95 Red, in the semi-finals they beat Anderson Ragdolls from Kentucky 5-1, and in the finals they beat St. Louis Shooting Stars 3-0.
The Bluebirds did a great job on defense while playing in some difficult conditions. The first game was extremely windy, the second game was in sleeting rain, and the third and fourth games were in nice weather with gusting winds.
The Bluebirds were led in
scoring by Haley Hatcher with 10 goals, Larkin Hatcher with 5 goals, Megan
Batek with 2 goals, Annie Stafford with 2 goals, Kelsey Smith with 2 goals,
and Leah Riner with 1 goal. On defense Haley Filat and Leah Riner did
a fine job of manning the sweeper position while Samantha Mack and Olivia
Caillouet did a great job on the outside corners. Megan Batek and Olivia
Caillouet manned the top of the diamond position well distributing the
ball with a strong attack. The Mighty Bluebirds might have had more goals
had they not dealt with the unlevel playing conditions which caused the
ball to bounce up often just as they were getting ready to shoot the ball.
