The Mighty Bluebirds had an impressive
first outing having our first ever all Bluebird final between our Black
and Orange U11 teams. The Black team beat LRFC U11 10-0, beat AFC Comets
U11 11-0, and then beat the Blitz United White U11 3-0 to advance to the
finals. The Mighty Bluebird Orange team beat FC United 3-1, tied Ft. Smith
Express 2-2, and then beat Russellville 3-1 to advance to the finals.
The Mighty Bluebird Black team saw Lauren Ashburn and Madison Lee play
their first games for the Black team as goalie pitching a shutout in all
three games. Haley Hatcher did a lot of damage as usual scoring 13 goals
in all three games while Annie Stafford scored 3 goals, Larkin Hatcher
2 goals, Megan Batek one, Olivia Caillouet three, and Haley Filat two.
The defense that pitched the shutout included Leah Riner, Breanna Gordon,
Kelsey Smith, Madison Lee, Lauren Ashburn, Samantha Mack, Megan Batek,
and Haley Filat.
The Orange team began their
tournament season magnificently. With the move of Lauren Ashburn, Megan
Batek and Samantha Mack to the black team it was time for some of our
others to step up to the plate, and they did. Hannah Qualls took control
of our midfield and scored a goal in our win over Russellville. Taylor
ward scored 3 goals in the victories over FC United and Russellville.
This was the debut tournament for Sarenity Gomez. Sarenity Scored 4 goals,
with at least one in each game, but she was also indispensable at defense.
Madison Brooks made her first appearance with the Orange team and performed
splendidly at left def. Ashley Owen played her first tournament as a defender
and played like an animal. Cari Baroni also played new positions this
weekend and excelled at sweeper making 5 monster defensive saves. Jessica
Ayliffe had the header of the tournament with a driving header shot from
midfield off of a goalie punt. Ashley Baker and Sarah Throckmorton also
were instrumental in our success with an assist each. We cannot and will
not forget the awesome presence of our goalie Diana Beltran. Diana was
feeling ill all weekend, and lost her voice, but was an ever tiring and
imposing competitor in the goal. Diana is the driving force behind the
Orange team. It was great to be part of an all Bluebird final and look
forward to a Co-State Championship in May.
