The Mighty Bluebirds White team won their fourth consecutive State Title
and their fifth State Title in the last six years this past weekend in
Russellville, AR. The Bluebirds defeated Searcy 2-0, then defeated Little
Rock Futbol Club White 2-0, FC United 4-1, and beat the Mighty Bluebird
Blue team 3-0 in an all Bluebird final. This marked the second time that
there had been an all Bluebird final this year as the U-10 and U-11 Bluebird
teams met in the U-11 State Championship final a couple of weeks earlier.
Normally the Bluebirds would not play and call it a Co-Championship but the game had to be played as only one team could go to Regionals. The Bluebirds will head to Austin, Texas during the week of June 24th through June 28th to represent Arkansas and compete against all the State Champions in the region.
The Bluebirds outscored their opponents 11-1 during the tournament with Annie DeCoursey leading the way with 4 goals, Abby Bloom contributing 3 goals and 1 assist, and Kelsey Hatcher scoring 2 goals with 4 assists. Ashley Moskow also scored for the Bluebirds as well as Lindsay Bridges, while Tracy Powell and Haley Hatcher contributed an assist as well.
The defense was back to its own form allowing just one goal during the tournament in dominating play. Defense was lead by goalie, Bethany Morrison, sweeper Amanda Janton, outside defenders, Caty McMains, Kaylee Flowers, and Jonie Block, with Abby Bloom at the top of the diamond. The Bluebirds looked very fit and tough at outside halfback with Rebekah Riner, Peaches Gaston, Lindsay Bridges, and Tracy Powell all contributing heavily. At forward, Katie Udron, Haley Hatcher, and Tracy Powell all looked good and made significant contributions to the scoring efforts.
