The Mighty Bluebird White team got back on track with one of their biggest tournament wins ever. The Memphis Invitational had the Arkansas State Champions, the Alabama State Champions, the Tennessee State Champions, and one of the top teams from Texas in this 16 team bracket. The Bluebirds won their first game 6 to 1 over Memphis Futbol Club, they then beat the Cobra 90G from Nashville, TN 1-0, then defeated FC United 1-0, they then beat the Alabama State Champions the Mountain Brook Angels 2 to 1 and defeated North Texas Strikers 2 to 1 in the finals.
Some highlights from the tournament included the final four games. In the game against Cobra 90G Kelsey Hatcher scored the games only goal and in the game against FC United Abby Bloom scored the games only goal. Against the Mountain Brook Angels Kelsey Hatcher scored the 1st goal on a direct kick. The Mt. Brook Angels tied the game up with just over four minutes to go in the game. In the last minute of the game Annie DeCoursey took a give and go down the field with the assist coming from Abby Bloom before she hit the game winner in the final minute of the game for the Bluebirds to advance to the finals.
In the finals against the North Texas Strikers Bluebirds got their first goal off a corner kick from Kelsey Hatcher that Annie DeCoursey headed in for a great goal. It looked like the Bluebirds had things wrapped up until North Texas scored late in the second half to tie it up. In the penalty kick shootout following overtime Tracy Powell, Kaylee Flowers, Amanda Janton, and Annie DeCoursey made the first four penalty kicks with Kelsey Hatcher still left over to kick, but Bethany Morrison stopped two of the Strikers five penalty kick chances and the game was over with the Bluebirds winning the title 4-3.
The defense for the Mighty Bluebirds was back to its old form with Bethany Morrison at goalie, Amanda Janton at sweeper, Caty McMains and Kaylee Flowers on the corners, and Abby Bloom at the top of the diamond doing a great job. The halfback play of Tracy Powell, Rebekah Riner, and Lindsay Bridges also provided the defensive support so needed at halfback. The Bluebirds gave up only three goals in the five games on their way to victory. Beating three nationally ranked teams on their way to the title.
