Mighty Bluebirds U-14 Cotton Classic Champions

The Mighty Bluebirds White team won their third consecutive Cotton Classic with four consecutive victories. It was the Bluebirds twelfth consecutive victory at the Cotton Classic and gave them the longest winning streak of any team in boys or girls soccer in the tournament. The Bluebirds won their first game 5 to 1 against the Purple Rain. Goals were scored by Katie Udron, Tracy Powell, Rebekah Riner and Ashley Moskow with assists from Katie Udron. In the second game the Bluebirds won 5-0 against Lady Express with goals from Rebekah Riner, Abby Bloom, Annie DeCoursey, and Tracy Powell and assists from Katie Udron and Annie DeCoursey. In game three the Bluebirds had to play the Mighty Bluebird Blue team who gave them a great game. The White team prevailed 2-0 with goals from Kelsey Hatcher and Katie Udron. In the final the Bluebirds got a quick 1-0 lead when defender Kaylee Flowers took a give and go from Kelsey Hatcher and dribbled by a couple of defenders and made a beautiful left footed shot in the top of the net. Although the Lobos had a couple of good shots and the Bluebirds had a couple of near misses the great defense of goalie, Bethany Morrison, defenders Caty McMains, Kaylee Flowers, Abby Bloom, and Jonie Block prevailed. A great effort was given by the defense all tournament as they gave up only one goal and that was due to a slippery field. Midfield was well manned by Annie DeCoursey, Kelsey Hatcher, and our new players Peaches Gaston and Lindsay Bridges. At forward, Katie Udron turned in her best tournament ever while Rebekah Riner, Ashley Moskow, and Tracy Powell all contributed goals throughout the tournament for the Bluebirds. The three time defending Memphis Cotton Classic Champions look forward to defending their title again in 2004.
