The Mighty Bluebirds Black U-10 team won the Russellville AVSA Fall tournament
defeating the Maumelle Hurricanes in game one 3-1, the Maumelle Wildcats
in game two 9-1, and in the final beat Harrison American Angels 3-0. In
addition, the Bluebirds played an exhibition match against the Maumelle
U-12 team and beat them 6-0. This Maumelle team had won all their games
in the U-12 bracket as well so you could say that the Bluebirds would
have faired pretty well in the U-12 division had they played in the U-12
division.
The Mighty Bluebird Black team has a new defense made of its biggest and strongest players. At goalie, Leah Riner and Sarah Frazier turned in great performances with fantastic play from Haley Parker at sweeper, Sarah Johnson at stopper, Mary Elizabeth Sixbey at right fullback, and McKenzie Clark at right fullback. The halfback play of Olivia Gregory, Annie Stafford, Elizabeth Freeman, Becky Scott, and Haley Hatcher helped control the midfield, which helped the Bluebirds dominate the game. The forwards took care of business by putting the ball in the goal. Leading the way in goals scored for the weekend was Haley Hatcher with 10 goals over the four games, Brooke Wendl with two goals, Olivia Gregory with two goals, Larkin Hatcher with two goals, Annie Stafford with two goals, while Becky Scott, McKenzie Clark, and Elizabeth Freeman all added one goal a piece. The Bluebirds still have not lost a game to a team U-10 or under this season.
