The Mighty Bluebird U-11 Classic soccer team won their second state championship
at the 2001 Chevy Presidents Cup. The Bluebirds were dominant on their way
to their second state title scoring 23 goals and allowing zero, shutting out
all opponents. The Bluebirds won their first game against FC United 6-0, then
won their second game against the Sting 14-0, and beat LR Futbol Club '90
(Lady Storm) 3-0 in the final. Leading scorers for the Bluebirds included
Kelsey Hatcher with six goals and one assist, Haley Whisenhunt with five goals
and four assists, Caroline Benton with four goals, and Courtney Sykes, Calli
Roberts, and Tracy Powell all scored one goal each.
Bethany Morrison led the defense at goalie with her three shutouts and the
defensive backfield of Kaylee Flowers, Caty McMains, Amanda Janton, Abby Bloom,
and Courtney Sykes was dominant. It's important to remember that the forwards
would not have been scoring had the midfield not controlled the game. Midfielders,
Annie DeCoursey, Caroline Benton, LeeAnna Magrath, and Katie Udron did a great
job controlling the midfield and this was the difference in the tournament.
