- The Mighty Bluebird Classic and Recreational
teams entered the Jonesboro Tournament as the only two U-11 teams
in the tournament with all the other teams being U-12 teams.
Although playing against girls 10-15 pounds heavier does take
a toll, the Mighty Bluebirds made up for their lack of size with
hustle, determination and most of all slide tackles to help take
the ball away from the bigger girls. Both teams made it to the
semi-finals with the Classic team advancing to the finals and
the Recreational team losing in a heartbreaker 1-0 with a goal
being scored in the last minute by the Memphis Fury U-12 Classic
team. In the finals, however, it was all Bluebirds as the Bluebird
Classic team controlled the ball and the game winning by a final
score of 3-0.

- A Bluebird team that last year only had 16
slide tackles for the entire season produced more than 40 slide
tackles in several games throughout the tournament. The aggressive
and tenacious play of the Bluebirds was the difference. The defense
for both teams was unbelievable during the tournament and we
saw some great passing from the halfbacks and forwards in route
to victory. More than anything else the wins were team wins as
it took every single player giving their maximum effort to get
the ball up the field to the forwards and half-backs to score.
The Jonesboro Tournament is the second tournament that the Mighty
Bluebirds have won this year and the team is looking forward
to its final tournament appearance of the year in the CASA Classic.
The coaching staff could not be more proud of the effort all
26 girls put forth in this tournament.
